"Thank you for all of your support these past years that I've been in the program. It helped my parents a lot because they don't have to spend money on supplies because you guys are helping us."

PACS NEWS 2006

December 2006 – A complete new configuration was planned for the Los Angeles office by Tomko & Woll so once again, staff packed up everything.  Several staff members were moved to the Long Beach office as part of the downsizing process.  By the end of a month, we had a beautiful new space, smaller but better utilized.  PACS was grateful to City National Bank for its generous donation of furniture, artwork and office equipment made possible by the oversight of Ivy Lau of Jones Lang LaSalle.  There was enough for some to go to the Long Beach and San Fernando Valley offices.  Lois, our highly organized and thoughtful building manager made it a smooth process.

December 9, 2006 – Staff and YES Program kids enjoyed a joyous Holiday Party.  Besides the tasty food, we had a lot of fun making gingerbread houses.  The results were spectacular as you can see!  Stephanie and Samin worked hard to have everything planned to a “T.”

October 2006 – In August, PACS started work on its Long Beach site.  Although the move was in the same building, the “new” office space was double in size.  Remodeling and furnishing the space was challenging with construction costs at an all time high statewide.  Tomko & Woll guided them thru the space planning and architectural design phases.  We had to go back to drawing board more than once to stay within budget.  Special thanks to Steve Tomko who donated a lot of his time.  The “before” and “after” photos do not begin to show how much work went into this project.  In the end it was worth it.  Both staff and clients love the new offices.  The Children’s Room has beautiful murals painted by our clinical site manager, Madoka Urhausen with the help of volunteers and clients.  Now the Study Room for the YES Program has computers for homework and lots of tables for projects.  There is a large Conference Room for meetings and a Group Room for smaller meetings and support groups.  Best of all, we have air conditioning…most of the time!

July 24, 2006 – This year, the staff picnic was at the Burton Chase Park in Marina del Rey and it was a great site for the high spirited antics of the attendees.  There was something about the blue skies and open spaces that brought out the covert competitiveness of the staff.  Folks loved the relay race with tiny Lifesavers to pass on toothpicks instead of batons.  It wasn’t as easy as it looked and a few got dropped.  The potluck brought out the culinary diversity and skills of the staff – delicious.

April 16, 2006 – At the Second Annual Cambodian New Year’s Parade, a big group of PACS staff, clients, family members and YES students marched down Anaheim Street.  There were gorgeous floats, beautiful costumes and enthusiastic bystanders.  At the end of the parade, we all met at the PACS booth to share lunch and enjoy the entertainment in the park.  The festival added a new dimension to the day with hundreds of people celebrating.  Sour Sdey Chhnam Thmey or Happy New Year!
