EVENTS CALENDAR
October 6, 2007 – Under the leadership of Dominique, clinical site manager at the SFV site, about 20 plus staff, YES kids and our friends and family members participated in the NAMIWALK LA. Kudos to Dominique for raising over $1000 for NAMI!! The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a grassroots organization that supports the families of those who have a relative with a brain disorder (mental illness). All the funds will go to support the free “Family to Family Class” so family members can learn to manage a loved one’s illness and work for recovery. Thanks to everyone for getting up early on a gorgeous Saturday morning and walking the 3+ miles. Next year, we bring our dogs!
May 21, 2007 – PACS celebrated its 10th Year Anniversary and the opening of its new Long Beach office with a lovely Open House. We were pleased that nearly 200 people came to see our new offices. Supervisor Don Knabe was our honored guest speaker and he recalled how “WRAP” as we were known 10 years ago, had grown and flourished since he first got to know the agency. Some of the dignitaries were Mayor Bob Foster, City Council member, Bonnie Lowenthal, the Board members of the Cambodia Town, Inc. and District Chief, Cathy Warner. The staff and kids from the YES Program worked hard to make it a success…and it was! We loved that so many of the staff chose to wear Asian clothing that represented their ethnicity. Special thanks to Madame Nishimura of the Edo Senke School of Tea Ceremony. Her performance of the ritualized tea ceremony, able assisted by Madoka and others was the high point of the event.
March 4, 2006 – The theater party at East West Players continued the Board’s attraction to events that have a cultural aspect. With its very good reviews and high name recognition, “Sweeney Todd” was a good choice and the cast lived up to its billing. We are most appreciative to our Gold Sponsors, Chapman & Associates Charitable Foundation and The California Endowment and our Silver Sponsor, Southern California Edison. Thanks to their generosity we were able to bring the high school students in the YES Program to see the show. It was a powerful, positive experience for them to see Asians in roles not normally played by Asians. As always, the hard work of the staff, Board and volunteers made the difference.
