PACS CLASSES & GROUPS

 

Parent Education and Support in Long Beach from 11:00 to 12:00 pm on Wednesdays

Parents and parents-to-be who want to address basic parenting skills can enroll in PACS Parent Education and Support Program. This program offers a minimum of 20 weeks of various subject topics, which include such topics as:  time management, money management, children’s academic success, and effective communication skills. Cambodian Women’s Groups at Pueblo Del Rio and San Fernando Valley

These are support groups for Cambodian women residing at Pueblo Del Rio Housing development and in the San Fernando Valley area.  The group is co-led by a therapist and a Khmer speaking case manager.  The groups offer the women an opportunity to gain peer support and address common issues in a culturally sensitive manner and in their own language. Women to Women Workshop: Healthy Female-Male Relationship – available upon request.

This free workshop provides psycho-education, emotional support, and empowerment for women of Japanese descent.  Participants address their needs and cultural values as they relate to the healthy male-female relationships and self-esteem including the issues around domestic violence.  The workshop can be conducted in Japanese or English, depending on the language needs of the group.  Please contact Yumiko Kodama, MSW at (310) 337-1550 for more information/enrollment. This program was made possible through a Verizon Wireless HopeLine grant.

Emotional Eating Support Group in Long Beach from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays

This is a 6-week group that focuses on helping clients who use food as a coping mechanism.  Participants learn new ways to "feed" themselves by using healthier alternatives.  Topics covered include: understanding the role of food in our culture, changing our attitudes about food, building self-esteem at any weight, learning to eat only when hungry, and portion control.  It also addresses what parents may have taught their children such as using food as a reward or punishment.  This helps the participants to teach their children healthy attitudes about food.  Please contact Madoka Urhausen at (562)424-1886 Ext.1152 for further information on when each new 6 week cycle will start.

Parenting Education Group in Los Angeles from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesdays

Parenting education is the key to raising successful children, creating competent, confident parents, and building strong families and communities. With love, limits, and lots of involvement, parents can have a major influence in developing happy, healthy and well-behaved children.

This program offers a minimum of 20 weeks of various subject topics, which include such as: child development, stress management, positive discipline, children’s academic success, and effective communication skills.
